আজ ডারউইন দিবস। তাঁর জন্মদিনেই। ধর্মতত্ত্বের মূল ধারণাকে, বিশেষ করে আব্রাহাম্মক ধর্মগুলোয় (ইহুদি, খ্রিষ্ট, ইছলাম) বর্ণিত সৃষ্টিতত্ত্ববাদকে, একেবারেই ভুয়া ও হাস্যস্পদ করে তোলার পেছনে চার্লস ডারউইনের চেয়ে বেশি অবদান রাখেনি আর কেউই। ১৮৫৯ সালে তাঁর পর্যবেক্ষণ-লব্ধ তত্ত্ব আজ নির্ভুল প্রমাণিত হয়ে ভগবানেশ্বরাল্যাকে অপ্রয়োজনীয় করে তুলেছে। বিবর্তন এখন এতোটাই অকাট্য ও প্রামাণ্য সত্য যে, এতে কোনও ভুল বের করে যে-কেউ নোবেল পাবার যোগ্যতা অর্জন করে ফেলতে পারবে। রিচার্ড ডকিন্স তো বলেই দিয়েছেন, বিবর্তনকে মিথ্যে প্রমাণ করা খুবই সহজ - মাটির তলায় পাওয়া ফসিলগুলোর কালানুক্রমিকে সামান্যতম গড়বড় পেলেই বিবর্তন বিষয়ক সমস্ত দাবি ধ্বসে পড়বে।
অথচ বিবর্তনবিরোধী বিবিধ ধর্মবাজ ও তাদের অনুসারীরা এই সহজ কাজটিও করতে পারেনি। পারেনি ধর্মীয় বিগ্যানীরাও। কারণ কাজটি অসম্ভব এবং এদের দৌড় তাদের উপাসনালয় পর্যন্তই।
